Propane Education and Research Council Defends Safety Record for Outdoor Propane Heaters, Stands Ready to Keep New York City Restaurants Open | News
WASHINGTON, November 26, 2021 / PRNewswire-PRWeb / – Thousands of travelers come up New York City For the Christmas season, the propane industry is looking forward to working with the new mayor Eric Adams on the reintroduction of propane for outdoor dining. Propane heating has enabled restaurants across the country to eat outside all year round since the pandemic began, and for many, it has been the difference between surviving and doing business.
In a letter to the US Mayors’ Conference last month, the National Restaurant Association claimed that “al fresco dining continues to be the lifeline for restaurants.”
James Mallios, Owner of Amali, a Manhattan Restaurant, told the New York Daily News that propane kept his restaurant afloat. “No exaggeration, if we didn’t have propane heaters last season, we would be out of business,” he said.
In New York CityThe use of propane requires an executive order that has not yet been extended due to unfounded safety concerns. No fire-related incidents involving propane outdoor heaters were reported by the fire brigade new York by winter 2020, and many of the city’s 19,000 restaurants have been able to stay open through the winter months thanks to their propane outdoor heating.
“The safety of our customers is always our top priority,” said Tucker Perkins, President and CEO of the Propane Education and Research Council. “We have no indications of safety or health issues related to the use of propane heaters in new York Or somewhere else. We would be happy to speak to city officials to resolve this issue. “
Propane is well positioned to keep restaurants and customers warm and safe after the cold weather returns, and it doesn’t require costly infrastructure upgrades that small businesses cannot afford. Installing outdoor heaters that run on electricity and natural gas often requires system upgrades, permits and inspections, and business interruptions – a heavy burden on restaurants.
Propane outdoor heaters are not only self-contained, portable devices, they also run on a safe and clean fuel that loses almost no energy on the way from the tank to the application.
Resilience is a trademark of New York City Businesses and residents, and propane is tailor-made for a city that continues to meet challenges. In contrast to electricity and natural gas, propane does not depend on the electricity grid or a pipeline. It keeps restaurants, other businesses, and households running even when the lights go out and natural gas supplies are cut, as was the case with Superstorm Sandy.
