Home heating safety tips from a local HVAC contractor | WETM

Elmira, NY (WETM) – While winter continues to hold us in the Twin Tiers, most people turn to heaters to keep them warm and safe. Now that we’ve made it in the middle of winter, it’s time for a heater safety review! There are many important things to keep in mind when dealing with heating systems at this time of year. Our local Isaac Heating Branch Manager, Mickey Sonner, shares what should be at the top of your list and how the weather outside can cause heating systems inside to fail.

“The most important thing about this time of year is that snowfall is a problem. We want to make sure that the outdoor ventilation is not covered in snow or ice. So, snow owners can go out checking that and make sure it is clear. We received a few calls this year when the snow was higher due to problems with the ovens turning off, ”says Sonner.

Many people also turn to space heaters to keep themselves warm and the most important thing to remember is – SPACE! Make room for the heater and always turn it off when you leave the room. Keeping the room warm is tempting, but it is much better to be cool and safe than to excuse yourself.
