While the IEA reported that electric heat pumps didn’t cover more than five percent of the world’s heating needs last year, it estimates that this number could potentially rise to 90 percent.

One of the main obstacles preventing the switch from gas to heat pumps is the high up-front costs for installing a new heating system. However, due to the lower operating costs, this initial expense pays for itself after a few years, which sounds like an investment opportunity for an enterprising energy company. And there are also government grants that help with the costs.
