Check out this quick recipe to make Chilli Oil at home
Chili oil is an indispensable accompaniment to various Chinese dishes. Make this seasoning at home in just 5 easy steps and enjoy with dumplings or pasta!
When it comes to Chinese cuisine, it is spicy and tasty. Spices are a very important part of this cuisine and enhance the flavor of various dishes such as pasta, dumplings, fried rice and so on. One such indispensable spice in Chinese cuisine is chili oil. Chili oil is a combination of paprika flakes and oil.
It has a bright red hue and is extremely spicy in taste. It is a staple in Chinese cuisine and goes well with almost every Chinese dish. You can make this incredibly delicious oil at home in just 5 steps by following the recipe given below.
First, mix ¼ cup chilli flakes, 1 tablespoon chili powder, ½ teaspoon salt and 2 tablespoons roasted sesame seeds in a bowl.
Now heat 1 cup of cooking oil in a pan and add 1 teaspoon of Sichuan peppercorns, 1 teaspoon of fennel seeds, 1 star anise, 1 piece of Chinese cinnamon / cassia cinnamon, 1 bay leaf, 1 Chinese black cardamom, 2 stalks of spring onions and 2 slices of ginger.
Cook these ingredients over low heat. Turn off the heat when the green onion turns brown. You don’t want to burn any of the ingredients as the burnt taste will overwhelm the chili oil.
Now pour the oil through a sieve into a bowl and discard the ingredients. Take the prepared mixture of chilli flakes and sesame seeds and add it to the bowl. Mix well.
Let the oil sit for about 12 hours or more so that the flavors combine properly. Store the oil in a bottle or glass and refrigerate.
